Here’s my amateur hour take on intentional motion blur using some of the new Makeup Geek Soft Focus Colors and a couple of Devinah Cosmetics Xploders pressed pigments. I just felt like messing around and doing something different than I normally do with my photos.

Makeup Geek Soft Focus Colors Used (see swatches):

• Lavender Dreams – Outer transition area
• Bellini – Inner transition area
• Code Blue – Outer lid, outer lower lashline
• Mint To Be – Inner lid, inner lower lashline

Devinah Cosmetics Xploders Pressed Pigments Used (see swatches):

• Everlasting Gobstoppers – Center of lid, applied over Too Faced Glitter Glue
• Marshmallow Pillows – Inner corner

The Makeup Geek shades worked out well and were very pigmented for being lighter, bordering-on-pastel shades. They blended easily and were very buildable. The Devinah Shades are very shiny and sparkly and make most other shimmers in my collection look dull and muted in comparison. They do have sparkle fallout and quite a bit of it. Just be aware before using them.

• Physicians Formula The Healthy Powder in LC1 – I use this to add coverage to my dark circles and the inner corner where concealer doesn’t fully do the job on its own

• Viseart Brow Palette – Two deepest powder shades in the bottom row
• Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara

The main focus of this look is Devinah Cosmetics Starfire Pressed Pigment, which is part of the Galaxy Dust Shifters Collection, but I also mixed a whole bunch of different products together. For the sake of reviewing products, I generally try to wear fewer shades so I can get a better feel for each one individually. But, man, can that quickly turn soul-sucking. I feel like I’m in this constant tug of war to balance my desire to just be creative with being more analytical about product performance. The more I use makeup as a form of creativity, the less I feel like I actually pay attention to how the makeup is working. At the same time, I learn a lot when wearing makeup in a way that is “less fun, more work.”

Also, for some reason I’m doing a ton of purple looks lately. Not intentionally LOL.

Products and Shades Used:

• Nars Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base in Light
• Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Light 2.5 Creme Brulee
• Physicians Formula The Healthy Powder – I used this to add coverage to my inner corner where concealer usually doesn’t completely cover the dark circles. I like to do this when I’m going to use an inner corner highlight. This product has been on sale for quite a while now. I fear they are phasing it out which is sad because this is truly a beautiful formula.
• Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Powder
• Urban Decay Naked Ultraviolet Palette – I used the shade Optimized on the inner part of my crease and inner portion of the lid. It was incredibly light/sheer and barely noticeable.
• Ofra Galaxy Palette – I used the shades Stellar and Eclipse to create the gradient in my crease. Stellar is used by itself on my lower lashline.
• Nabla Wild Berry Palette – To add depth to my outer corner I used the shade Blackberry.
• Too Faced Glitter Glue – I patted this all over my lid to prep for the next shade. It lifted the previous shadows just a bit so I ended up having to touch up the crease area afterwards.
• Devinah Cosmetics Starfire Pressed Pigment (part of the Galaxy Dust Shifters Collection) – I pressed this all over my lid with my finger. It has quite a bit of fallout which I edited out of the photo because it was distracting. In hindsight, I should have done my under eye concealer and lower lashline work after doing my upper lid. The shine these Galaxy Dust Shifters give to the lid is insane! Much more shiny than your typical shimmery eyeshadow.
• Devinah Cosmetics Kazookles Pressed Pigment (part of the Xploders Collection) – I used a dampened pencil brush to apply this to the inner corner. The Xploders shades do have a bit of a greyish cast to them when the light hits at certain angles. I wouldn’t use these with a much lighter look but since this look is darker overall the greyish cast isn’t nearly as noticeable. The Xploders pressed pigments are very shiny as well.
• Lorac Front of the Line Pro Liquid Liner in Black
• ColourPop Creme Gel Liner in Cry Baby – I have this in my lower waterline. This shade is not showing up on their website. Any light lavender eyeliner can be used in it’s place.
• NYX Vivid Brights Liquid Liner in Vivid Blossom – I just added a little accent along the outer edge of my black liquid liner.
• Fenty Beauty Full Frontal Mascara – Upper and lower lashes
• Viseart Brow Palette – I used the two lightest powder shades in the bottom row.
• Mac Shape and Shade Brow Tint in Taupe – Just the liquid side to extend the tail of my brow and fill in a few spots in the front of my brow.

I used Asteria from Devinah’s Galaxy Dust collection along with a few of the Elf Bite Size Eyeshadows to create this look.

• Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Powder – Pretty sure this is being discontinued but I’m using it because it’s very finely milled and mattifies my skin really well. Too Faced Peach Perfect Loose Setting Powder gives me a similar result but isn’t as long lasting.

• Devinah Cosmetics Asteria Pressed Pigment (part of the Galaxy Dust Shifters Collection) – I pressed this on with my finger right on top of the primer
• Elf Bite Size Eyeshadow in Pumpkin Pie
  • Matte warm brown (first shade on left) – Transition shade in crease and on lower lashline
• Elf Bite Size Eyeshadow in Cream & Sugar
  • Lightest matte shade – Used this to blend out crease shade
• Elf Bite Size Eyeshadow in Hot Jalapeño
  • Matte yellow toned green (third shade from left) – Lower lashline
  • Matte blue toned green (rightmost shade) – Lower lashline, closer to lashes to add some depth
• Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara
• Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Eyeliner
• Hourglass 1.5mm Mechanical Gel Eyeliner in Obsidian – Upper and lower waterlines
• Viseart Brow Palette – 2 lightest powder shades on bottom row
• Mac Shape + Shade Brow Tint Pen in Taupe – Just the liquid side

Thoughts:

I’ve been trying out the new eye primer from Hourglass and so far I really like it. It is more of a sticky type of primer and it has been helping with shadows that I find blend away a little too easily. It also seems to last quite well, at least as long my Nars Pro Prime, maybe even longer.

Because the primer is a bit tacky, I went ahead and pressed Asteria (the shimmery shade) right on top of it before laying down any of the matte shadows. This is not typically the order I apply eyeshadows in but this formula needs something sticky to adhere to. Devinah recommends a glitter glue such as NYX Glitter Primer, but the Hourglass primer seems to work just fine as long as I don’t set it. Afterwards, I went around the edges and applied the matte shades. There was some shimmer fallout both during application and while I was blending the matte shades on the edges of the shimmer.

Asteria’s most prominent color shifts are green and reddish purple but it has a warm reddish brown base color. I thought the base color was going to show up more than it did, which is why I chose such a warm brown crease color. In hindsight, I would have chosen a purplish crease color to compliment the purple shift.

Another thing I’m trying is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara. This has also been working out well for me. It lengthens my lashes more than it volumizes and holds a curl well. Today, I forgot to curl my lashes, unfortunately. It isn’t clumpy and doesn’t make my lashes stick together. So far so good.

The Devinah Cosmetics Galaxy Dust Shifters Collection contains 7 multichrome pressed pigments that shift in different lighting. They can be purchased in a set for $56 or individually for $8.

The pans are 26mm in size and come in little cardboard sleeves. You will need a magnetic palette to store these in. Devinah offers these, but you can also find them from other places.

These are swatched over Too Faced Glitter Glue. I initially tried swatching them on bare skin but they didn’t apply as smoothly and the colors didn’t show up as well that way.

I recently also swatched their Xlpoders Collection. In comparison to those, these have a deeper base color and they are easier to see on the eye when worn alone, whereas I frequently see the Xploders used as inner corner highlights or layered over some type of base color.

Celesta

Celesta has a warm reddish brown base color with a strong sheen that shifts from golden green to a light blue-green. The blue-green is only visible at extreme angles. The golden green is by far the most prominent.

Asteria

Asteria has a warm reddish brown base color with a strong sheen that shifts from fiery orange to magenta to green. The orange is the hardest to pick up The green is most visible in direct light and the other shades are more visible in angled light.

Messier

Messier has a warm reddish brown base color with a strong sheen that shifts from magenta to purple to blue to light blue-green. The light blue-green shows up most in direct light and the other shades show up at angle.

Skyla

Skyla has a warm reddish brown base color with a strong sheen that shifts from red to magenta to purple to blue. In direct light, blue is the most prominent.

Starfire

Starfire has a warm reddish brown base color with a strong sheen that shifts from orange to magenta to purple. The purple are most visible to me.

Magellanic

Magellanic has a warm reddish brown base color with a strong sheen that shifts from yellowy-orange to red to pinkish purple. The pinkish purple is most visible in direct light.

Cygnus

Cygnus has a warm reddish brown base color with a strong sheen that shifts from deep gold to orange to warm pink. Warm pink is what I see most in direct light. This shade and Magellanic are pretty similar. I think this one is slightly warmer overall.

The Devinah Cosmetics Xploders Collection is made up of 7 pressed pigments that were inspired by Willy Wonka Candy. These are available individually for $8 each or in a set for $56.

These things play tricks on my eyes because they shift colors depending on the angle of the light. I *think* they are considered multichromes but I’m not entirely sure. I’m not an expert on multichromes by any stretch of the imagination. I’ll try to describe each shade and their shifts the best that I can below.

I swatched these over Too Faced Glitter Glue. I initially tried swatching them on bare skin but they didn’t apply as smoothly and the colors didn’t show up as well that way.

One thing I have noticed as I’ve starting playing with these, the shift makes it more challenging to pair these with other eyeshadows. I’m still working on figuring out which combinations of colors I like using with these shades.

Pixy Stix

Pixy Stix has a sheer peachy pink base with a strong golden sheen. In the pan, and in the swatch, the peachy pink base is much stronger than it looks on the eye. In practice, when I actually wear this the most prominent thing I see is the golden sheen. If I’m looking at the swatch under various angles of light I can see that the sheen shifts from pale green, to light gold, to light peach. It seems to settle most strongly on light gold.

Marshmallow Pillows

Marshmallow Pillows has a sheer light pink base with a strong sheen that shifts between magenta and light blue. As with the last shade, the base color doesn’t show up much on the eye. The most noticeable thing to me on the eye is the blue shift.

Runts

Runts has a very sheer light grey base with strong sheen that shifts from a muted, warm purple to a light peach. The muted purple sheen is what I see most when I look at it.

Kazookles

Kazookles has a sheer light grey base with a strong sheen that shifts from a warm pink to a cool violet. To me the violet is most noticeable.

Nerds

Nerds has a light blue base with a strong sheen that shifts from light blue green to light yellowy green. The light yellowy green is most prominent.

Swudge

Swudge has a sheer light blue base with a strong sheen that goes from warm purple, to violet, to electric blue. The electric blue is what I see most strongly.

Everlasting Gobstoppers

Everlasting Gobstoppers has a light blue base with a strong sheen that goes from a silvery purple, to a pinkish purple, to a light teal, to a vibrant green. The green shows up the most for me. This one had one of the strongest, most noticeable shifts.
