I’m finally getting around to posting my review of the Milani Luminoso Eyeshadow Palette. I feel like this has been taking so long to get through. This palette came out late December (I think) and after a shipping delay, other products I was reviewing, work, etc., it’s finally here. LOL. Anyway, this is a warm neutrals palette inspired by their blush of the same name that has been around forever. I have the original blush and I think they did a really nice job capturing the essence of it in this color selection.

It comes in a small square-ish cardboard palette similar in size to a ColourPop 9-pan palette. There is no mirror and it has a magnetic closure. The pans are a bit smaller in size than ColourPop eyeshadows and in general the presentation feels a little bit on the cheap side. It retails for around $13 so I can’t really expect that much I guess. After playing with this, I feel like the quality of the shadows exceeds the quality of the packaging though and I was generally happy with the way these performed. There are some cons about certain shades and I will get into that more below.

There are 3 mattes in a good range of shades – nothing too similar, some different tones and depths to work with. And there are 6 shimmers with different finishes. They range from very subtle satins to sparkle/shimmer mixtures. There are only two shades that I feel are unnecessarily similar to each other (Luminoso and Beam), but those two are most similar in color to the Luminoso blush so it kind of makes sense.

Color payoff and blending was good throughout the palette but at times I did run into issues with some of the shades not adhering well, especially some of the more sparkly shimmers. Using a dampened brush made them work and helped them to pop more.

Below I have individual swatches and shade descriptions along with notes about the quality of each shade and further down I share some of the looks I’ve done with this palette.

Despite some drawbacks, I gotta say I’m happy to have this palette. I can get a good range of looks out of it and it’s a fantastic selection of shades in my comfort zone to wear on the daily.

Swatches

Note: All shades are swatched twice. On the left, they are heavily swatched with my finger and on the right I mostly used brushes and sheered the shades out.

Halo – Matte light peach. Finish is more of a luminous matte finish, not dry and flat-looking. Good color payoff, blends easily.

Dusk – Shimmery medium bronze. Mostly fine shimmer with a tiny bit of silver sparkle. Not much fallout, one of the better shimmers.

In The Clouds – Matte light brown. Same finish/feel as Halo. Good color payoff, blends well, could apply a little bit more evenly.

Pink Moon – Warm medium pink with shimmer and lots of sparkle. Has more of a crumbly texture and needs to be smoothed out. Lots of fallout. Using a wet brush was best with this shade.

Luminoso – Pale peach with gold satin sheen. The finish is soft and subtle, does not reflect much light. Nice quality shade.

Sol – Subtly pink-toned gold with shimmer and lots of sparkle. Another somewhat crumbly shade with a decent amount of fallout. Works fine on a dry brush if layered but better with a wet brush.

Beam – Pale pink base with gold satin sheen. Similar color and finish as Luminoso but pink is marginally more visible when seen from an angle. Another nice quality shade.

Sunset – Orangey red shimmer. All fine shimmer. This shade is more complex than it appears on the surface. It is definitely red but it shifts a bit between orange and pink toned depending on the angle. The base appears more orange while the sheen is more pink. This was the most difficult to get to adhere. Definitely needed to use a wet brush with this one.

Horizon – Medium dark warm brown with a matte finish. Tiny amount of fine shimmer but it doesn’t show up much on the lid. Good color payoff, easy to blend. One of my favorite shades in the palette.

Looks

For this look I applied Halo all through the crease with a fluffy brush. I used a dampened flat eyeshadow brush to apply Sol all over the lid. Sol is a somewhat crumbly shade and I still got a little sparkle fallout using it this way. Using a thick eyeliner brush, I applied Luminoso along the entire lower lashline.

I started this out by packing Horizon all over the lid and worked the color up into the crease all with a flat shader brush. The edges are somewhat soft but not as blown out as they’d be if I’d used a fluffy brush. Over top of that shade, I applied Pink Moon with a dampened flat brush all over the lid. Pink Moon is another crumbly/sparkly shade that I get a decent amount of fallout with, even applying it this way. I used a dry liner brush to apply Dusk to the lower lashline – this had very little fallout and adhered easily. On the inner corner and the outer edges of my crease color, I used Beam with a dampened pencil brush. A dry brush would’ve probably worked fine for this shade.

For this look, I applied In The Clouds to the crease with a fluffy brush. I used Dusk all over the lid, applying it with a dry flat shader. It didn’t adhere super easily and I had to build it up to get good color payoff. Horizon is applied to the lower lashline and also a bit on the outer corner for a little extra depth there. On the very center of the lid, I used a touch of Sol, which didn’t adhere well over Dusk or show up well. Could’ve skipped this step.

Here I used Halo in the crease and applied Sunset all over the lid. I started using Sunset on a dry brush and it just would not go on evenly. Parts would show up with full opacity and other parts would be so sheer, I could hardly see it. Also dusted away at the tiniest touch. After that I ended up using a wet brush which was much better but still not easy. Pink Moon is used on the lower lashline and Beam is on the inner corner. Both of these worked just fine.

The “structure” of this look was done by using Horizon on a pencil brush to apply it mainly to the outer crease and lower lashline. It is layered a little more heavily on the upper part of the eye and more sheerly on the lower lashline. Blending and adherence were good. I used Beam all over the inner lid and crease with a dry flat brush. This shade adhered easily as well and ended up having a little more shine than I expected.

In The Clouds is used on the outer half of the crease and lower lashline. Luminoso is applied to the inner half of the lid and on the center of the lower lashline with a dry brush. I also wanted to see how Sol would apply with dry brush so I used that on the inner corner with a pencil brush, applying 3-4 layers to get it to show up well. Fallout was not too bad for layering it that much.

This last one was mainly to see how Luminoso looked on the lid compared to Beam. The finish is a bit drier and flatter looking but the color is similar.

Milani Stay Put Liquid Brow Wax is a product for shaping and holding brow hairs in place. It is a colorless wax and does not come in tinted versions but can be combined with other brow products (powders, brow pens, etc.) to add color. It similar in concept to a clear brow gel but feels different to the touch (not crunchy), and has more hold but remains flexible all day. The tube is about the same size as a mini mascara, contains 5ml, and can be purchased for $11 from Milani or Ulta.

Of all the new Milani things I picked up, this was surprisingly my favorite one. I almost didn’t even get it. At first glance, it doesn’t seem like anything different or special and I already have plenty of things I can use to set my brows into place.

In my skepticism “liquid wax” sounded like just another gel. But this truly does work like a liquid wax. The hold is much better than what I get with standard brow gels and is very nearly into brow soap territory. I imagine it would work well with coarser, more textured brow hair. Because it stays flexible, I can keep messing with the shape of my brows until I’m happy or fix them later in the day. As I’m applying it, the product hardens and the hair becomes less pliable within seconds, but it never causes my brows to feel crunchy or stiff.

It is supposed to dry down clear – it doesn’t. From straight on, it looks completely transparent, but at certain angles, it has a very faint white cast to it and I can kind of see it sitting on top my brow hairs. Sometimes I see a few tiny clumps. The more heavily I apply it, the more of an issue it becomes. The clumps are generally small and you can use brow powder over top to tone down or hide the white color. As long as I distribute the wax evenly, it isn’t terribly obvious. I’m not too bothered by this but I could see it being annoying to some.

Be careful to apply it sparingly because it can build up quickly and cause the hairs to end up plastered against the skin. That’s not a bad thing but it may not be your desired effect. The brush holds a reasonable amount of product – not too much, not too little. It has lots of very tiny bristles and spreads all the brow hairs out evenly. It’s a much nicer brush than the ones on the ends of my various spoolies. 

As I mentioned before, it builds up quickly and once that happens it is hard to “go back” without removing the product. If all you want is a natural-looking, light hold here’s a tip:

Once you get just the right amount applied to get the desired hold, stop using the included applicator to maneuver brow hair into place. Switch to a separate, clean spoolie so you aren’t adding more product while adjusting the hairs into place.

It is possible to get the “soap brow” look with this. If I want to apply it heavily, I will drag the wand slowly and firmly against the brows, adding 2 or 3 layers. The included applicator presses the hairs flat on its own but you could use a separate tool like the Elf Brow Lift Applicator or just the handle end of a brush. This holds the hair very well against the skin and I can use powders, ink pens, etc. over top and they adhere fine over the wax.

Using the product this way almost works as well as actual soap. The hairs generally stay well all day on the outer half of my brows but hairs on the inner part are more stubborn and want to pop up away from the skin early in the day.

I picked up the new Milani Highly Rated Lash Extensions Tubing Mascara along with the other new products they came out with recently. Tubing mascaras are supposed to wash off with water in clumps instead of breaking down by liquifying. I’ve only seen this available in black and there is no waterproof version. It retails for $14 and can be purchased from Milani and Ulta.

This mascara has a very wet formula and coats the lashes heavily right away. It is noticeably blacker than my Loreal Voluminous Noir Balm Mascara and Benefit Roller Lash. One light layer is about all I can get away with before I start seeing my lashes sticking to each other and pointing in several different directions. I can use this but I have to be careful and quick about it. No more than a few passes of the wand and definitely no second layers.

It isn’t the type of mascara that gives me fanned out fluttery looking lashes. I don’t find it super lengthening nor super voluminzing. It defines decently well and helps the lashes stand out starkly against my eyeshadow but I don’t love the effect.

I always curl my lashes before applying mascara and I didn’t have any trouble with this one uncurling them but it didn’t help to “lift” them either. I think it generally looks best for “everyday” makeup that I’d wear to work or just to get ready for the day. I don’t like it much for close up photos.

This is much easier to remove by washing my face than by using a makeup wipe. The makeup wipe required lots of passes and rubbing to loosen the mascara and it wasn’t worth the irritation it would cause my skin to do that. I don’t use regular makeup remover or cleansing balms so I’m not sure how it’d do with those. Even just warm water without cleanser was plenty to get the mascara to come off.

Flaking and smudging were super minor. After 12 hours worn on both upper and lower lashes without using setting powder, the little bit of smudging I noticed looked like a faint shadow. And I only saw like 3 tiny specks that flaked off during that time.

Pros:

• Very black, shows up well against dark eyeshadow
• Somewhat glossy look
• Not too difficult to wash off with just cleanser and water
• Doesn’t uncurl my lashes
• Not clumpy
• Somewhat lengthening
• Small brush makes it easy to apply without getting mascara on my skin

Cons:

• Causes lashes to stick together a bit, though I’ve had other mascaras that do this worse
• Easy to over apply, 1 layer looks best on me
• Feels kind of heavy
• Very wet and takes a long time to dry down
• Not good for layering or building up slowly

Milani has come out with 5 new mini eyeshadow palettes. These are their Gilded Mini Eyeshadow Palettes and they come in 5 warm and neutral shade variations. They go for around $10 each and contain six shades. So far I have seen these available on Milani’s website and at Ulta.

The mattes and shimmers are all pretty consistent in quality across all of the palettes. In general, the mattes had decent, but not great color payoff. Pigmentation was better for the mattes than the shimmers. They applied mostly evenly except for some of the deepest shades, which needed some extra time and effort. At times, I found some of the mattes didn’t adhere super well over bare lids, but did fine over a primer. Blending was mostly easy.

The shimmers are sheerer than the mattes and aren’t as intense as the ones in the older Milani Most Wanted Palettes in similar packaging. They aren’t terrible or unusable, just kind of lackluster. There wasn’t too much fallout from most of them except for a single shade that had very large chunky sparkle in it (in the Call Me Old Fashioned palette). I preferred to use them with damp brushes to amp up the color and shine.

These are all more neutral and muted than the older Most Wanted palettes. Out of all of them I enjoyed the two pink ones the most and felt they were nice to have in addition to the old palettes.

Milani Whiskey Business Gilded Mini Palette

This is an all-matte palette that is very warm overall and doesn’t look anything like the product photos on Ulta or Milani’s website. Most of the shades worked well with decent color payoff and easy blending. The one that was hardest to use was the last shade on the right. It could be more pigmented and it could sit more evenly on the skin but it’s not terrible. The selection of shades isn’t my favorite in Whiskey Business. I wish there weren’t two midtone oranges and that the purple-brown on the end actually looked on the eye the way it does in the pan. It is far more muted on the skin.

Here, I used both deep shades, one on the upper lid and one on the lower lid and you really can’t tell them apart.

Milani Call Me Old Fashioned Gilded Mini Palette

This is generally a cool toned neutral palette, except for the one bronze shade in the middle. I like how the range of colors feels “complete” in that you can use this palette by itself, BUT I wish that the dark brown in the middle was maybe a little bit lighter. It makes me want to reach for another palette to find more blending shades. The quality is generally okay. The shadows work, they show up, they perform. They just don’t blow me away. The fallout from Shade 5 and the lack of blending shades for my skin tone make this one a pass for me. Wear time seemed good. I wasn’t super careful about noting times but I think I got around 8 hours over primer and at least 6 without.

For this look, I used Shade 5 tapped over the deepest matte. It had a TON of sparkle fallout. This was the only shade in all 5 palettes that was problematic with fallout.

Milani Champagne Problems Gilded Mini Palette

I think the shades chosen for Champagne Problems make sense and are pretty good quality but I’m not inspired by them. The 3 deeper mattes are all kind of close in depth and are not all necessary. One medium orange and one much deeper shade than the one that’s provided would have been better IMO. The whole palette is very similar to the older Milani Burning Desire Most Wanted Palette. If you have that one, this isn’t going to do anything that’s much different. All of the mattes work well, even the darkest one. The orange shimmer has a smooth finish and all fine particles. The metallic gold has a thicker feel, much more color payoff, and larger specks of sparkle in it.

Milani It’s All Rosé Gilded Mini Palette

This palette and the next one are the two I liked best out of the five. All of the shimmers have a mixture of fine shimmer and large sparkle. The last shade is a subtle pink-peach duochrome but the shift isn’t very obvious on the eye. The two mattes are a bit too close in color for my taste and they have some trouble adhering.

I tested this for about 6 hours over bare lids and it didn’t hold up very well. What I could see was significant fading in the crease, but not a whole lot of actual creasing. This is somewhat normal for me though no matter what eyeshadow I use. I haven’t worn this one yet with primer.

Milani The Wine Down Gilded Mini Palette

I think this palette has a solid selection of shades and works fine by itself. Pigmentation is decent. It doesn’t blow me away or wow me but it also doesn’t disappoint me. The shimmers and mattes have a similar level of color payoff. Some building is necessary but it’s not hard to get the color to show up. Even the light matte shade shows up pretty well. Blending is easy for the darker shades. This lasted pretty well. After 7 hours over primer, I could see a little bit of fading in the crease, but no actual creasing yet. I did not test this without primer.

More Looks

And here are some more looks where I used more than one palette together. I definitely enjoyed using these palettes more this way than trying to force myself to use just one at a time.

This was a combo of The Wine Down and It’s All Rosé Palettes. I used the palest matte shade as a matte highlight, the light purple matte all over the lid, and the deeper matte burgundy on the inner/outer parts of the lid. Underneath the brow, I have Shade 4 from It’s All Rosé and Shade 6 from the same palette slightly below that but above the crease. I applied the shimmery burgundy with a wet brush all along the lower lashline. The shimmers aren’t bad but using a wet brush is super helpful to get them to have more impact.

This was another look using a combo of The Wine Down and It’s All Rosé Palettes. I used the lighter matte pink from It’s All Rosé on the upper crease, the darker matte pink on the lower lashline and one of the pale mattes as a highlight and on the upper lid. I used a wet brush to apply Shade 2 from It’s All Rosé to the lower lashline and a wet brush to apply Shade 4 from The Wine Down to the upper lashline. I used some of the matte light purple on the inner/outer part of the crease.

A simpler, all matte eye using a combo of Champagne Problems and Whiskey Business. I used the palest matte as a highlight and on the upper lid, the two matte orange shades from Champagne Problems in the crease, the deepest matte from Whiskey Business on the lower lashline and the second palest matte in Whiskey Business on the inner lower lashline and as a transition above the crease.

Comparisons

I am mainly comparing these to some of the older Milani Most Wanted Palettes. The format is about the same between the old and new palettes except you might notice that the new ones have metal pans in each shade compartment and in the old ones, it seems the eyeshadows are pressed directly into the palette. The formulas are different between the two. If you look at the ingredients lists, the old ones did not contain talc and the new ones do. Here are the lists from one of each line. They vary somewhat from palette to palette but you can get an idea:

In general, I like the quality of the older palettes more, especially in the color payoff of the shimmers. The mattes apply similarly but I get a bit better wear time out of the new ones.

These two are both basic matte palettes that are good to use together with other palettes or just for a simple eye look. I prefer the shades in Partner in Crime because they are more neutral on me. Whiskey Business is both very warm and quite dark, so I don’t find it to be all that useful for pairing. The shades in the older palette are matte but have a tiny bit of pearl that isn’t really noticeable on the eye. The new ones are truly matte.

Here are the new and old orange palettes. I think the shade selection in the new one is better. The two midtone oranges are different enough to tell apart on the eye even though they look kind of similar here. I use the lighter one mainly as a transition but I feel it isn’t super necessary. It would have been nice if the darkest matte shade was a little bit deeper.

And here are all the pink palettes. The two new ones are different enough from the old one, in case you already had the old one.

Milani Conceal + Perfect Blur Out Powder is an airy, mattifying, loose powder that helps to diffuse the look of skin texture and control oil. It retails for around $13 and is available to purchase from Milani and Ulta.

There are 5g of product in the pot. Most of my other loose (and pressed) powders contain around 10g. Just by looking at the sizes of the powder compacts and containers I have, this one isn’t that much smaller, so I wonder if the weight difference might be due to the ingredients.

INGREDIENTS: Silica, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Dehydroacetic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol, Maltodextrin, Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

I am by no means an expert in cosmetic ingredients but I do like to scan over them and do some light research to see what they are. There are some that I see time and time again (like silica) and they don’t really faze me but the second one listed is new to me. If you punch Polymethyl Methacrylate into Google, you will quickly find that it is a type of plastic (acrylic). It’s supposed to be “safe” and compatible with human skin.

The powder is VERY fine and flies up in the air as I go to pick some up out of the container. I am glad they included the fabric netting to control how much comes out of the pot. This netting is stretchy and flexible so I can press a brush or puff down into the pot to reach powder that is sitting well below it. I tend to remove sifters from loose powders but I don’t think I will be doing that with this one. 

Applying this to the skin, it has a super silky, and almost kind of dry, but still very smooth feel. It creates a surface with very little friction or tack. Using this to set under eye concealer helps any eyeshadow fallout to not stick to the skin as much as it otherwise might. It darkens my concealer the tiniest bit but not enough to be a problem. I’ve had other powders that darken much more.

The main benefit of this product is that it’s supposed to blur. So how well does it do that compared to other products? I think it blurs marginally better than most of my other powders. My favorite one was the Too Faced Peach Perfect Setting Powder (now discontinued). I went into this purchase thinking the Milani powder might be a decent substitute that is actually currently available.

So far, I am happy with the smoothing effect and pleasantly surprised at the added bonus of controlling oil as well. I will say that blurring is really best done using a combination of products and not just relying on one magic pill.

There are couple of potential downsides, though. Be careful not to apply too much. You may not even see any excess powder in real life but it can definitely show up as flashback in photos. The last “after” pic below is an example of this. If you end up over applying, just buff over the area to tone it down.

Another issues is that there is only one shade and that may be a problem for those with deeper complexions, if it shows up as much as it does on me. It is supposed to be translucent and it mostly is if applied lightly but it doesn’t take much to overdo it.

As a product, I like how this powder performs. It looks good, it lasts. But I find the idea of putting powdered plastic on my skin (and then washing it down the drain) kind of disturbing. I realize plastic is everywhere and something like this is such a small percentage of it. It’s just that makeup is in no way a necessity and I don’t see why overlooking that is okay in this situation. In hindsight, I wouldn’t purchase this again for that one reason alone.

There are 5 palettes in this line, each containing 6 shades and retailing for $9.99. Each palette contains a total of 5 grams / 0.18 oz of product. Milani describes them as having a “velvety smooth, hyper-pigmented” formula that is “ultra-bendable & buildable.”

In general, the mattes had a soft, silky texture that felt finely milled and they were very easy to blend. They adhered better to an unset or sticky base and could be prone to dusting away easily. They applied best when I used a packing-type of brush rather than a fluffy brush. The best one I currently have for this purpose is the Sonia Kashuk Essential Small Eyeshadow Brush. Using a fluffy brush could cause them to blend away too easily.

Most of the shimmers were very nice. They had a super smooth, buttery feel and adhered easily to the lid. I thought the shimmers were much stronger in formula than the mattes, overall.

I wouldn’t say these are “hyper-pigmented.” They are somewhat sheer and can be built up to be semi-opaque. Some shades are more pigmented than others. The least pigmented palette was Partner in Crime, which was just sheer across the board.

Wear time was shorter, averaging at about 5 hours over Nars Pro Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base. Keep in mind I have oily eyelids, so your mileage may vary.

Milani Partner in Crime Most Wanted Eyeshadow Palette Review

All of the shades in this palette are matte. There is a very tiny amount of pearl mixed into the shadows which helps them to not look completely flat-matte. On the eye, they read as matte, though.

This palette is aptly named, as I would use it as a companion palette. You could also use it on it’s own for looks that are typically considered office-appropriate. However, it’s nice to have a selection of matte shades in a variety of depths to use in conjunction with other palettes that may not have basic shades like these.

Something to note is that the shades in all of these palettes are very blendable and you really don’t need transition shades except if you wanted to add color variation to your look. I would probably pair this palette with formulas from other brands that I find more challenging to blend. For example the Makeup Geek Eyeshadows I recently reviewed would be the type of formula that these would pair well with. Very blendable shadows like these can be super helpful when you are using a highly pigmented but harder to blend formula.

This is not the palette I would turn to if I was looking for a deep smoky look. While there are darker shades, they dust away quite easily once you start blending. They also don’t have enough adherence to be able to build them up a whole lot.

I would say this palette could be ideal for somebody that likes quick, no-makeup makeup. It will give the eyes some definition with minimal effort.

Milani Outlaw Olive Most Wanted Eyeshadow Palette Review

Shade 1 has a nearly matte finish but it’s not completely flat. There is a very subtle sheen to it. I wouldn’t even say it’s a satin finish. It almost reminds me of the finish of Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder. Extremely subtle hint of luminosity. Semi-sheer but plenty of color payoff to show up. This shade isn’t super light, it’s very close to my skin tone. It evens out the color of my eyelids more than it highlights on my complexion.

Shade 2 is gorgeous. It has a smooth formula with a soft satiny olive base and lots of shimmer particles that are large enough to stand out against the base color without being so large that I’d call them “glitter”. Applied on the lid, this has plenty of shine and brightness. The color is semi-sheer but builds up easily. Very little fallout during application.

I would describe Shade 3 as a dirty olive. This has a different texture than the other shimmers in this line. The base is a matte taupe and it has larger gold shimmer particles that stand out nicely against the matte base. When I initially swatched this, I didn’t like it. The base color didn’t seem pigmented enough and I thought the larger sparkles would cause fallout during application. In practice, this is actually quite nice. The color is semi-sheer but applies to the lid evenly and has plenty of color payoff. Sparkle fallout was surprisingly not too bad! The sparkles adhere easily to the lid as long as I don’t set my base. They can be somewhat easy to dust away if apply another color on top to deepen up the outer corner. To combat this, I just applied a bit more of this shade over top the deeper shade to replace some of the lost sparkles.

Shade 4 is also surprisingly good. I thought, based on the performance of the deeper shades in the Rosy Revenge Palette, that this would be similarly disappointing. But, it’s not. It has very nice color payoff, little-if-any fallout, and it blends easily. A very nicely formulated deep green.

Shade 5 was not quite as nice as Shade 4 but was better than the deep purples in the Rosy Revenge palette. It had good color payoff but applied a bit patchy and required a little extra finesse to get it blended out and applied evenly to the lid.

Shade 6 worked as nicely as the other shimmers I’ve tried in this line so far. Creamy, smooth, applied evenly, buildable color payoff. Little fallout. No chunky glitter.

Milani Burning Desire Most Wanted Eyeshadow Palette Review

Shades 2 and 5 are too similar as are Shades 3 and 6. There is a subtle difference in undertone but overall the tone and depth are very same-same. Once on the eye, these two sets of shades are barely distinguishable from one another.

The three shimmers adhered easily to the lid, even over the matte eyeshadows. They had a good amount of shine but I wouldn’t describe them as being foiled. There was mild fallout from them but not enough that I’d do my foundation after my eyes when using these shades.

I thought this palette was about on par quality-wise with the Outlaw Olive palette and a bit better than the Partner in Crime palette. Very usable, very decent shadows. The color story was a bit lackluster for me personally, though.

Milani Rosy Revenge Most Wanted Eyeshadow Palette Review

Shade 1 is probably the best shade in this palette. It has a smooth texture without any chunky glitter and leaves a soft shimmery finish on the lids (not highly foiled). I didn’t experience any fallout with this shade and found it semi-sheer but easy to build up. It had good adherence, even over other eyeshadows.

Shades 2, 3, and 4 are all okay. They are a looser, more powdery formula. They are very easy to blend and have semi-sheer but buildable color payoff. They are easy to work with, especially if you prefer a less intense look. The deepest pink had noticeable fallout during application. For this shade, tap excess off your brush before applying to the eyes.

Shades 5 and 6 are my least favorite in the palette. They are very dusty, powdery, and not the most pigmented. I recommend not setting your base, using a stiffer brush with them to ensure the best color payoff and then going in with a small fluffy brush to blend around the edges. Both of them had fallout. Definitely be careful to tap excess from your brush before applying these shades! Avoid applying them over other eyeshadows as they won’t adhere well to other powders.

I really like the color selection but the overall quality wasn’t as good as the Outlaw Olive or Burning Desire palettes.

Milani Jewel Heist Most Wanted Eyeshadow Palette Review

Shades 4 and 5 have a thinner, dustier texture that doesn’t adhere super well to the lid. They aren’t very buildable. Once you get an initial layer down on the lid, the lid becomes too dry to hold onto any more shadow. This can cause them to look like they’ve been applied unevenly. Blending them out can dust them away too easily so I have to go back and forth between my packing and blending brushes more than I would like to.

The shimmers all worked fine, about as well as the other shimmers in this line. The depth of shade 3 against my pale skin made the shadow look more sheer than the lighter shades. I don’t think it’s necessarily more sheer, just that it’s more obvious because it’s a darker shade on me. I had to build it up a bit extra when I used it in a look to get it to pop more.

I was pretty disappointed with this palette because of shades 4 and 5. They are beautiful colors but I would not use them because of how poorly they applied.

Thoughts On Jewel Heist Palette:

The blue and cranberry shades were the weakest shades of the palette. They were dry, dusty, and didn’t adhere well to the lid resulting in lackluster color payoff. The shimmery green is a pretty color but it was sheerer than I would have liked. The gold and champagne also seemed to have that sheerness but because they were lighter in color, it wasn’t as obvious on the lid. My favorite color in this palette is the pale champagne shade because it’s very neutral, not too yellow toned. I think it would make a pretty cheek highlighter.

Thoughts On Rosy Revenge Palette:

I like the color story and my eye is drawn especially to the brightest pink in the middle of the palette but I feel the shades ended up looking lackluster once applied. The two deepest shades on the right side were the most disappointing. They were dry and not very pigmented.

Thoughts On Burning Desire Palette:

These types of fiery oranges are not my favorite colors to wear but the quality is okay here. To me, there is too much repetition happening in this palette with two matte orange shades and two shimmery orange shades that have only a very subtle difference in undertone. There are higher quality orange eyeshadows out there but I thought these were better in comparison to the shades in the Partner in Crime and Rosy Revenge Palettes. So far it seems that the shimmers are stronger than the mattes in this line of palettes.

Thoughts On Outlaw Olive Palette:

This is probably my favorite color story of the 5 palettes in this line. The shades I used in this look seemed to perform better than the shades in the Partner in Crime and Rosy Revenge palettes. The deep green went on surprisingly evenly and blended out without too much effort. The bright olive shimmer was smooth, pigmented, and gave the lids a nice shine.

Thoughts On Partner in Crime Palette:

My first impression of these eyeshadows is that the mattes are soft and very easy to blend but they don’t adhere super well to the lid. The shimmer was smooth and almost creamy (but definitely still a powder) and adhered better to the lid than the mattes but required a little building up. This palette seems aptly named “Partner in Crime”. It certainly can be used on it’s own but I think this is going to serve better as a companion palette.

Product Description

What it is: Milani Everyday Eyes Must Have Naturals is a mostly cool-toned palette with a well balanced selection of shades. The shades are supposed to be “richly pigmented” and well coordinated.

Price/Quantity: $10 for a total of 0.21 oz/ 6.0 g

Availability: Milani, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Fred Meyer

Packaging: The plastic case feels sturdy and well made. It opens easily but stays closed securely. The included brush feels very soft against the skin and the shapes of each end compliment each other.

Smell/Fragrance: It is not fragranced and it doesn’t smell like anything to me.

Performance

There are six palettes in the Everyday Eyes Collection and this one draws my eye the most. It’s compact and the selection of shades are well thought out. I can use this by itself to without having to bring in extra colors to complete the look.

There is a guide on the back of the palette that describes where to use each shade. I don’t recommend following it. It suggests using the Base shade before applying the other shades. I tried it and it resulted in underwhelming color payoff from the shimmers and patchiness from the matte shades. I just use the Base shade as another option for a pop of shimmer on the lid.

Shades:

• Base is a sheer, pale golden shimmer. It had minimal fallout and not much kick up in the pan. I found this most useful as a highlight or accent shade.
• Contour is warm light brown with peachy undertones and a matte finish. No fallout and minimal kick up in the pan. It has good pigmentation, applies evenly and smoothly and builds up well. I found this to be most useful as a transition shade.
• Lid is a shimmery warm taupe with rosy undertones. It had some pickup in the pan and significant fallout applied with a dry brush. I found this applied best with a damp brush (dampened with setting spray) which gave it a shinier finish and reduced fallout.
• Crease is a dark matte taupe. It had some kick up in the pan and fallout during application. This shade had good color payoff but was the patchiest in the palette and required a lot of time to blend out smoothly. I got the best results applying this with a flat shader brush to the outer lid and slowly working the color up into the crease. This gave me a much smoother blend and less fallout than simply going in with a crease brush.
• Specialty is a pale peachy pink shimmer. It is sheer but can be built up to almost full opacity. Just like the the Lid shade, this had some kick up and fallout and applied best with a damp brush.
• Liner – Matte black. It was very nicely pigmented but a bit patchy. It can be used as a shadow but I found it worked best as a liner.

I tried this both with and without primer. Over Nars Pro Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base, these applied way more evenly and smoothly and lasted 8-9 hours without creasing or fading. Without primer, they wore for about 6 hours before starting to crease and fade.

Worth Buying?

Maybe. I think this would make a nice travel palette since it doesn’t require pulling in more shades to create a well rounded look and the included brush is actually pretty good. The biggest downsides are the patchiness in the Crease shade and the shimmer fallout from the Lid shade. Those downsides would deter me from purchasing this for everyday use.

Color/Finish: Luminoso is a satiny light peach. Depending on the light though it can either appear more pinkish or more orange.
Packaging: The blush is packaged in a fairly thick plastic compact with the product name and shade labeled on the back. The top portion of the compact contains the dome-shaped blush and underneath that is a mirror and a flat brush. The compact stays shut securely and I haven’t had any issues with it breaking. The brush has a blunt end and densely-packed bristles that are a little scratchy. I wouldn’t use it on a daily basis but in a pinch it would be okay.
Smell: I don’t smell any fragrance but I can smell a barely-there powdery smell.

Performance

Application: Applies evenly and smoothly and blends out nicely. Be careful though. It is deceivingly light colored but very highly pigmented so it can be over applied more easily than you would think.
Pigmentation: Highly pigmented but easy to apply with a light hand. The satin finish gives a nice glow to the cheeks without being glittery or frosty looking.
Texture: Super smooth and blendable. Not powdery or crumbly.
Longevity: 8+ hours. In all the times I’ve worn this I’ve never had it fade on me.

Overall Opinion

Pros:

• Highly pigmented
• Smooth texture
• Easily blendable
• Long lasting
• Affordable

Cons:

• Packaging is quite bulky

Worth buying? Yes. Truth be told, I’m not a huge fan of drugstore blushes in general but the Milani Baked Powder Blushes are some of the best ones out there. This particular shade is extremely popular in the beauty world because it works on such a wide variety of skintones and it’s not too shimmery or too matte. It does lean a bit warmer so keep that in mind when pairing it with lip and eye colors.
