Base

  • Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
  • Loreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup in Soft Ivory N1
  • Wet n Wild Mega Cushion Color Corrector in Green – Apples of cheeks
  • Loreal Infallible Total Cover Color Corrector Kit (green shade) – Apples of cheeks
  • Tarte Shape Tape in Light – Under eyes
  • Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque – Inner corners of eyes
  • Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-1 – Spot concealing around the face
  • Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder
  • Physicians Formula The Healthy Powder in LC1 – Mostly on the cheeks and around my hairline
  • NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray

Last night I used Differin gel for the first time. I have used retinoids in the past but they were all the much more gentle types you find in over-the-counter products. Differin is over-the-counter now, but was once a prescription-only product and is more potent. I mention this because I can already see some redness in my skin.

After putting the foundation on, I could still see some redness peeking through. The first color corrector I grabbed to fix the issue was from Wet n Wild but it wasn’t the right shade of green and didn’t fully cancel out the redness. The Loreal corrector worked much better.

I added the Physicians Formula The Healthy Powder in to help balance out the color on my cheeks after using the color corrector. This powder is really nice for adding more coverage when you feel your foundation is just not cutting it.

Eyes

  • Nars Pro Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base
  • Mac Paint Pot in Groundwork – All over lid, blended up into the crease
  • PYT Beauty No BS Eyeshadow Palette – Matte pale cream is on the brow bone and inner corner. The two light matte brown shades are used in the crease.
  • Essence Melted Chrome Eyeshadow in Ironic – All over the lid and blended slightly into the crease
  • Lorac Front of the Line Pro Liquid Liner in Black
  • Mac Pro Longwear Fluidline in Blacktrack – I used this to fill in gaps between my lashes.
  • NYX Skinny Black Liner – Upper waterline
  • Covergirl Lash Exact Mascara in Black Brown

For today’s makeup, I planned to do a classic holiday eye look. Normally I would use Mac’s Painterly Paint Pot to even out my eyelids since it matches my skin so well. But I knew I was going to do a soft brown crease so, instead, I chose Groundwork which is a perfect shade for that purpose.

For a look like this, I realize that wear time is an important factor. The most likely scenario is that someone would wear a look like this to some type of gathering and the last thing you want to worry about is touching up your makeup.

So, I chose the PYT Beauty Palette specifically for how long wearing the shadows are. There’s nothing super different about these shadows except that they are one of the longest wearing formulas I’ve found. I also used my Nars Pro Prime for extra long wear time.

The Essence Melted Chrome Eyeshadow is really something special. I really like this formula and I don’t have a anything else quite like it. It’s like a cream/powder hybrid and it’s super shiny. This could possibly impact wear time being a more “creamy” formula. I wore this look for about 6 hours and it wasn’t creased by that time.

Cheeks

  • Milani Silky Matte Bronzer in Sun Light
  • Benefit Rockateur Blush

This is one of the more neutral drugstore bronzers I’ve come across. So many of them are very warm on me and can clash with other makeup.

The Rockateur blush has a warm overall tone to it but it also has a blue-ish/purplish sheen to it. Maybe not exactly the best shade for this look, but it fits okay.

Lips

  • Physicians Formula The Healthy Lip in Fight Free Red-icals

I chose this color both for the shade of red and for it’s ease of wear. This isn’t a formula I need to be too worried about smearing. It’s not a totally dry liquid lipstick so it will transfer a bit if you are drinking something or kiss somebody. But, it’s so much easier to wear than a creamy lipstick for a bold shade like this.
